Early Sunday morning we were notified of the passing of John Warms. John had been with PANJ for nearly twenty years working in many capacities. He was consultant, negotiator, organizer, and trainer. John will be sadly missed.

Survey conducted in 1993 by the Federal Probation and Pretrial Officer's Association about assaults against probation officers around the country. There has not been anything done since and we are trying to get the Bureau of Justice Statistics to do one now.

The Judiciary appeared before the Senate Budget Committee on April 27, 2009. You can listen to the questions put to Judge Glenn Grant along with his answers. Near the end of the proceedings Senator Sweeney asked questions about probation.
Questions about probation begin around 1:14:37 and last about 5 to 6 minutes. You can move the bar to that marker so as to not listen to the entire hearing.


As we previously stated PANJ through it's Attorney David Fox has filed an appeal on behalf of all PANJ members to the Civil Service Commission. PANJ believes that the temporary layoffs in May and June are a direct violations of our recently negotiated contracts.

Testimony of George P. Christie Senate Bill 1889:



On 5-19-2005 the New Jersey Supreme Court has agreed to review a case addressing the court's own powers. In In re Matter of P.L. 2001, Chapter 362, the Appellate Division said a law allowing probation officers to carry firearms unconstitutionally violated the power of the judiciary to control its own employees. In effect, the Supreme Court, which is the final authority for the judicial branch, will be passing judgment on how the doctrine of separation of powers applies to itself.    Click Here
